“Remember when Serena Ryder was just starting to gain international acclaim? When people would see her play a small gig and say, “She’s going to go somewhere?” That’s where Edmonton’s own Rebecca Lappa is at right now. With her singular take on folk rock, she’s dangling on the precipice of becoming a household, Western Canadian name.” Stephan Boissonneault, Vue Weekly, Aug 2018
“The creativity and heart you brought to your winning song was truly inspirational” Lois Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, March 2017
Rebecca Lappa may have been Canada's best kept folk-rock secret - until now. The Canadian Folk Music Awards recipient and Edmonton Music Awards winner is Canada's brightest new voice.
In December 2017, Rebecca released her new folk-rock EP, “Spirit”. It features the song “Valiant of Vimy” that won the Lieutenant Governor’s Spirit of Vimy contest and a trip to Vimy Ridge. Reuniting with her CFMA winning team of Barry Allen and Gord Matthews from Homestead Recorders, the songs on the EP reflect the human spirit and highlight courage, adventure, change and love. Rebecca was honoured to perform “Valiant of Vimy” at the City of Edmonton’s televised Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Butterdome for 5000 people. The EP reached #1 on CJSR’s Top 30 and #6 on the national Folk/Roots/Clues chart on Jan.16/18. Rebecca is excited to embark on her 20 date, “Spirit of Adventure Tour” to Toronto and back, while she attends the Canada's Music Incubator (CMI) this March and April. Rebecca received the Bell Media Prize to attend CMI.
The “Spirit” EP is a follow-up to her Factor JSR funded genre blurring CD, “Reckless Heart”. Debuting at # 1 on CJSR’s Top 30 and #10 on iTunes Singer/Songwriter Album chart in November 2016, “Reckless Heart” continued to chart on many stations including 5 weeks on CILU Thunder Bay's Top 10 Folk/Roots/Blues Chart. Her producer Russell Broom captured a nomination for Producer of the Year of this CD at the 2017 Western Canada Music Awards. Two songs on the CD received songwriting recognition: Crawl- was the winner of the 2015 Calgary Festival Songwriting Contest and Bonnie and Clyde- is a semi-finalist in the 2017 International Song writing Contest.
